Varamo is a novel by César Aira and translated into English by Chris Andrews, © New Directions 2012
I enjoyed this post regarding Varamo’s writing and those around him having expectations for him to produce a masterpiece. Inspiration doesn’t come when you expect or want it. Is that yours or the author’s thought. It is true?
They didn’t expect him to write a masterpiece because he’s just a lowly clerk but when you read it, you are told up front that he has written a masterpiece and the book is about how that transpired.
of course THAT comment posts.
I have attempted to comment on this three times now with no success. You’ll have to trust everything I wrote before was brilliant. I’m just going to say – HALF-WAY through he realizes fish can’t play the piano? Hmmmm….
He’s not that clever…
